We have reported many times on FXMAG that the job market situation is tough, as well as the layoffs in Kraków planned by companies from various industries. The capital of Lesser Poland will have to face another wave of layoffs. According to lovekrakow.pl, from January to April, i.e., the first four months of 2026, 15 companies expressed a desire to reduce positions. Layoffs could affect up to 1,317 employees!
Layoffs in production and the financial sector
Employment reductions in Kraków will affect many sectors of the economy. According to lovekrakow.pl, the biggest layoffs will affect the industry related to the production of electrical and electronic vehicle equipment. In January alone, that was 285 people. The next sector where many people may lose jobs are financial and accounting firms. In the capital of Lesser Poland, only in March, a desire to lay off 269 people in this industry was reported. In this case – one can only speculate – one of the reasons for such a large reduction is the launch of the National e-Invoice System, which in many companies is a pretext for reducing employment.
It should be noted that by the end of the year the scale of layoffs could prove enormous, since in just four months the desire to reduce positions was reported by 15 companies. Of course the desire to lay off does not mean that exactly that number of people will lose jobs, nor that it will happen immediately. Mass layoffs are a process that can take months. To carry it out, the employer must report such plans to the appropriate Employment Office. In the cases mentioned above, it was the Grodzki Employment Office in Kraków.
It is bad, but better than a year ago
The scale of planned layoffs certainly does not inspire optimism and may cause more employees to start worrying about their future. However, it should be noted that the situation in the first four months of 2026 was better than in the corresponding period of 2025, when companies reported a desire to lay off 1,877 people.
As for which companies reported a desire to reduce positions, there are some analogies. A large portion of companies planning such actions are enterprises from the business services sector, which constitutes a large share of all employers in Kraków.
Will unemployment rise after the wave of layoffs?
Some people who lose their jobs in Kraków will certainly be able to find employment in other companies. The capital of Lesser Poland is one of the cities that hosts a large number of companies. However, it should be noted that not everyone may be that lucky. For some people, job searching may not be a simple task. In many cases it may involve the need to acquire new qualifications. And that, if it is not systemically supported, can be costly. This can be a difficult task for the unemployed.
More layoffs in the coming months?
As admitted by Adam Biernat, director of the Grodzki Employment Office in Kraków, on lovekrakow.pl, the transformation process in the business services sector will continue. This directly may mean further layoffs.
“We expect further growth in the importance of specialized, technological, and professional experience,” said Adam Biernat on lovekrakow.pl.
This may indicate that specialists in certain fields will more easily find work. However, this is not always the case. Some layoffs may be caused by the introduction of AI-based solutions, which allows reducing the number of people performing a given job. It should also be noted that some companies are moving from Kraków to other countries where operating costs are lower than in our country.
