In the whole case, the shocking aspects are not only the doctor’s huge earnings but also the fact that hospital authorities allowed it.
He worked “72 hours a day”
The irregularities were not recent but several years ago. According to Polsat News and Interia reporters, the case was supposed to surface in 2024 when a change of power occurred in Braniewo County. The new board and supervisory board began reviewing the facility’s documents, including financial ones. When they detected irregularities, they alerted the prosecutor’s office.
Among the controversial documents – as journalists found – were those indicating that one of the doctors worked at the Braniewo County Medical Center for over 1,000 hours a month, even though the maximum allowed is 744. And that’s not all the controversies. The documents also raised questions about the number of hours worked in a day. The documentation suggests that the doctor sometimes worked 48, 62, and even 72 hours a day!
Importantly, the doctor in question no longer works at the Braniewo hospital. He is now supposedly employed at medical facilities in Ostróda and Nidzica.
Hospital losses could reach up to 3.8 million PLN
The procedure in which the doctor issued invoices for huge amounts lasted up to three years. During that time – according to the new authorities – the doctor could have exposed the facility to losses of about 3.8 million PLN. Annually his invoices amounted to over 1 million 772 thousand PLN. The case is still under investigation.
How could the doctor command such a large salary? According to Monika Trzcianka, the new chair of the supervisory board of the Braniewo County Medical Center, in a conversation with Polsat News, the doctor held several roles simultaneously, which affected the number of hours worked.
During the same period, the doctor was on duty in an ambulance, on the surgery ward, and also providing night and holiday health care.
Recall that this is another recent example of high earnings among doctors in Białystok, revealed by the media. The first was the 28‑year‑old Dawid Kacprzyk, who, as a non‑specialist doctor at Warsaw’s South Hospital, was supposed to earn almost 1.6 million PLN. The case would not have surfaced if not for the fact that Kacprzyk was also a city councilor from the Civic Coalition in the Ursus district, which required him to file a financial statement. It also turned out that at the same time the young doctor worked at other hospitals, including in Częstochowa.
Another example that recently circulated in public opinion is the case of neurosurgeons working at the Mogilno County Hospital, who were said to earn up to 26 thousand PLN per hour.
