Did the Middle East finally achieve peace?
Donald Trump will attend a three‑day G7 summit in Évian‑les‑Bains in France, which will begin on Monday amid reports of the end of the war in the Middle East.
According to CNBC, French President Emmanuel Macron faces the difficult task of implementing an agenda that aims to reduce global inequalities and strengthen multilateralism.
These goals are clearly at odds with the “America First” policy championed by Trump, which emphasizes protectionism and the White House’s isolationist approach to international affairs.
The Gini coefficient in the United States, according to the cited data, exceeds values recorded in all European countries except Turkey and remains close to historical highs.
Trump confirmed reaching an agreement with Iran shortly after the Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, who was to act as a mediator between the two sides, announced that the official signing ceremony would take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been finalized. Congratulations to everyone!” the U.S. President posted on the Truth Social platform.
“I hereby grant full permission for free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and simultaneously order the immediate lifting of the maritime blockade imposed by the U.S. Navy. World ships, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” he added.
The Republican also stated that the “great deal will bring peace and security to the entire region,” and that “oil will flow again from both sides for the region and the world.”
Importantly, Iran cooled American optimism by citing escalating tensions in the region, including the Israeli attack on Lebanon.
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that continuing talks makes no sense if the United States does not demonstrate “will and ability” to fulfill its commitments.
“The coming week could prove to be a turning point for the U.S. dollar in the near future,” analysts from MUFG said, highlighting not only the importance of Middle Eastern news but also the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting on interest rates.
“The Fed will hold its first monetary policy meeting under the new chair Kevin Warsh. This meeting should provide greater clarity on how Fed policy will likely respond to the energy market price shock,” they added.
Economists emphasize that the Fed decision, which we will know next Wednesday, will be crucial for USD levels.
“If Warsh signals readiness to ignore the inflation shock and keep rates unchanged, it could strengthen the dollar’s weakness following the U.S.–Iran agreement,” they said.
“However, if he signals that rate hikes may be necessary, it could open the door to further strengthening of the U.S. dollar,” they added.
