However, it must be admitted that “cheap was already the case”, because even at the beginning of the holidays, pellet prices are not optimistic. The average price of this “fuel” is about 20% higher than last year at the same time.
Poles have taken to pellet
Pellet stoves are becoming one of the most frequently chosen by Poles, who install new heating devices or replace old coal stoves with newer, more eco-friendly ones. A large share of this was due to the “Clean Air” program, which, despite the controversies surrounding it, allowed for subsidies for installing such a device. According to data from the Polish Chamber of the Wood Industry, as many as 79% of all applications submitted to the program in April concerned the installation of pellet stoves. A month earlier, this percentage was 76%.
“The program data indeed show that pellet stoves are most often chosen by Poles and this trend is growing. It is due to several very practical reasons. First, pellet is a well-known solution and, above all, understood by customers. Second, pellet stoves work very well in modernised, older buildings, which we have the most of in Poland. Added to this is predictable heating costs and independence from the price of electricity. This is currently of huge importance for households,” said Przemysław Jarząb, sales manager for renewable energy at 4 ECO.
“Hunting” for cheaper pellet
The fact that there are more and more pellet stoves means that more and more people are looking for pellet that, during the previous winter, which was characterised by very low temperatures at some point, began to run out. Careful owners of pellet stoves do not want to allow such a situation. In addition, they look for ways to save. That is why many people decided to start collecting pellet already in July. However, do not expect to get it “half price”.
Currently pellet can be bought for 1300-1400 PLN per ton. If someone wants to buy a more calorific “fuel”, they must pay much more, about 1900-2000 PLN per ton. Of course there are offers where prices are much higher. Pellet Olczyk costs 2185 PLN (975 kg in 65 bags). And that is not the price ceiling. On the Internet you can find pellet that costs even almost 3,000 PLN per ton.
As people looking for pellet already in July notice – if the price is so high now, what will it be in autumn? Perhaps that is why so many people started collecting heating for winter so early.
