On July 3, 2026, the temporary checkpoint in Budzisk became the scene of an operation that shows how thin the line can be between routine checks and a serious revelation. Customs and Tax Service officers from the Podlaskie KAS and the Podlaskie Border Guard Branch inspected a Romanian truck. The driver was a 37‑year‑old Romanian citizen.
But it was not an ordinary passage. In the trailer, officers uncovered 54 foreigners who tried to enter Poland illegally. Among them were 30 Pakistani citizens, 15 Afghan citizens, and 9 Bangladeshi citizens. One truck, three nationalities. Dozens of people hidden in a space that is formally meant for transporting goods.
The mechanism of the attempt was simple in principle: use the truck as a cover, cross the border, and avoid inspection. However, the inspection proved to be the turning point.
The inspection that breaks the illusion of ordinary transport
This case concerns not only one truck. It also concerns trust in border and transport movements. Every day, vehicles pass through checkpoints, and their appearance says nothing about what they actually carry.
The route was also established: the driver was transporting foreigners from Latvian territory. This element clarifies the entire story. After the inspection, the services transferred the foreigners to the Lithuanian side and planned criminal proceedings against the Romanian citizen.
In this case, two formations cooperated: the Customs and Tax Service and the Border Guard. Their tasks converged in one place, on one vehicle. The effect is visible in the numbers. The state reacted where it should have reacted; at the border.
