The situation also favored the inflow of foreign capital into the domestic market, which in turn translated into further gains for the main indices on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
The WIG and WIG20 indices have largely recovered March losses, and their returns over the last month alone are solidly over 13%.


WIG-Games – the gaming industry on the GPW
In sector terms, the past week was exceptionally successful for the gaming industry (WIG-Games +10.2%) – mainly due to the strong rise in CD Projekt’s listings (42% share in the subindex’s portfolio) amid speculation about a possible paid add‑on release for The Witcher 3 later this year.
At the same time, the 11 bit studios share price (13% share in the WIG-Games portfolio) rebounded sharply after news of strong interest in the upcoming release of a game from the company’s publishing portfolio.
WIG-Banks – the banking sector on the GPW
Compared to the previous week, the banking sector’s gains slowed noticeably (WIG-Banks +1.9%, after a >10% rise last week), while declines deepened for energy sector companies (WIG-Energy -6.0%).
At the start of the current week, market sentiment is no longer as optimistic.
The announcement on Friday of the opening of the Ormuz Strait did not even last until the end of the weekend, and media reports and politicians’ statements suggest often contradictory images of the situation in Iran.
Uncertainty is fueled by the unknown course of peace talks and the approaching end of the ceasefire.
The rise in tensions has already reflected in financial markets – on Monday most European indices recorded declines, and the main U.S. indices also opened on small negatives.
