From its very beginnings, the Internet has been the first line of defense (or rather first panic) for anyone who has been sidelined.
From “Google Doctor” to deadly dangerous hallucinations
The era of “Google Doctor” smoothly evolved into the age of “AI Doctor”. Tens of millions of people worldwide type their symptoms into chat windows, expecting instant, effective, and free advice. The problem is that the LLMs behind the most popular chatbots were fed practically everything they found on the web.
The data scraping process made chatbots highly prone to hallucinations, i.e., fabricating facts and data just to please the user.
Unfortunately, while erroneous information about Poland’s baptism is a funny slip-up, hallucinations on medical topics can end in real danger to human health and life.
Patients risk their health by blindly trusting technology that simply was not designed for clinical purposes.
In this battlefield, an alliance emerges that could completely shake up the medical technology market and heat up stock market investors.
Microsoft and the famous American Mayo Clinic officially announced a partnership at the Build developer conference. The goal is very ambitious: to create an advanced AI model trained exclusively on clean, verified medical data.
We’re talking about millions of anonymous medical histories, laboratory test results, and invaluable knowledge from doctors.
Gianrico Farrugia, CEO of Mayo Clinic, emphasizes in an interview with CNN that the right people and precise data are key to radically improving treatment outcomes.
From a business perspective, the clinic will be the sole owner of this solution. The plan includes not only deploying a digital assistant in Mayo Clinic facilities but also licensing the technology to other hospitals worldwide.
For Microsoft, this means a powerful, strategic innovation injection that will improve the consumer bot Copilot.
Mustafa Suleyman, head of Microsoft AI, tones down the hype and explicitly states that refining the model will take many years.

Silicon Valley vs. medical reality
The race for dominance in the medical AI sector continues. Google flexes its muscles with its “AI Health Coach”, promising personalized training plans and biomedical data analysis. Anthropic and OpenAI also desperately integrate health assistants into their ecosystems.
Why do Microsoft and Mayo Clinic have a chance to win this race? The answer is the quality of fuel, i.e., data.
Mayo Clinic has unique knowledge resources about rare and complex medical cases that cannot simply be scraped from the web. It’s worth noting that the renowned clinic already has smaller successes; its proprietary, modest algorithms effectively help detect heart disease or pancreatic cancer.
Farrugia remains a pragmatic optimist and emphasizes that the global shortage of medical staff and growing demand for healthcare (aging society) somewhat force the adoption of AI in the medical sector.
Investors reacted to this news with great optimism, and on the market close on June 15, Microsoft shares rose by 2,31% to the level of 399,76 USD.
