According to official data from the SteamDB database, on Sunday at a certain point in Cyberpunk 2077 the game had as many as 87,500 concurrent players.
The Great Return to Night City
More importantly, these are only Steam data, as PlayStation and Xbox do not provide such statistics. One can therefore assume that many players returned to Night City.
For a title that debuted in December 2020, this result is simply phenomenal. We are talking about the highest peak of activity since the release of the well‑received add‑on “Phantom Liberty” and its accompanying revolutionary 2.0 update.
Someone might think players simply got bored with new content, but the truth lies in the perfect alignment of marketing with the ideal market moment. CD Projekt once again showed that it can manage hype like few others in the industry.
This spectacular success was built on two key factors. The first is pure, unrelenting economics. The market giant decided on a powerful price hit, offering a solid –70% discount on the base version of the game. Thanks to this, the highly prized and beloved hit can be purchased for less than 60 PLN.
Considering that the base version comfortably offers over 100 hours of gameplay, the value for money is extremely satisfying.
This is the lowest price at which Cyberpunk 2077 has ever been officially available on the Valve platform. For the undecided, who have so far only watched Night City in gameplay videos, this was the final argument to let themselves be carried away by the dark vision of the future on this unbearably hot weekend.
This opportunity does not happen often, and the numbers on Steam clearly show that players’ wallets opened up instantly.

The Edgerunners II Effect, or How Anime Drives the Market and Sales
The price drop alone is not enough to trigger such a spectacular return to Night City. The real bomb (and not the one under Arasaka Tower) turned out to be the anime teaser “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2”. Netflix and Studio Trigger officially presented the return to the brutal world of dystopian future with a brand‑new story and characters.
The teaser and cleverly published social media materials, slowly revealing the black‑hole of mystery, effectively sparked excitement bordering on cyber‑psychosis among fans.
Players began not only analyzing the teaser frame by frame but also searching for specific locations appearing in the teaser. The song that appeared in the teaser reached 1 million views on YouTube within three days.
On the Warsaw stock exchange, investor reaction was immediate. CD Projekt shares shot up, rising by almost 4% during sessions.
At the market close on July 2, CDR shares rose 3.56%, reaching a peak of 235.5 PLN.
The market and investors love product announcements from the gaming and pop‑culture frontier, because their impact far exceeds standard growth communications about upcoming projects or releases.
Investors received a clear signal that the franchise lives, generates massive reach, and still manages to earn gigantic money without having to release a new game every year, like Ubisoft.
