Interface designers and AI systems know exactly how to eliminate the so‑called “pain of paying”.
FinTech trance, or how UI/UX manipulates your wallet
The buying process is so seamless that it’s almost invisible – it feels like acquiring free skins in a game, not actually spending hard‑earned money.
When stores lure you with summer promotions and ads promise instant dream fulfillment, it’s easy to fall into the shopping trance. “Try it now, pay later” – the banners shout. From a psychological and technological standpoint it’s a masterpiece. From the perspective of your financial liquidity – a powerful threat.
Shifting payment by a month gives a false sense that the goods are almost free. In reality, however, BNPL algorithms (Buy Now Pay Later) don’t give gifts; they cleverly package a classic financial product into shiny, digital paper.

Remember! Deferred payment is just credit
Investors in the stock market love BNPL companies because they generate huge turnover. You drive that turnover by clicking reflexively on more transactions. Every 50 PLN or 100 PLN deferred to later seems like a small amount. But the sum of small decisions usually overburdens your budget.
Summer promotions and so many opportunities! Ads charm, stores lure. Buy now, pay in 30 days. Try it now, pay later. Remember: deferred payment is credit. Wrapped in convenience, speed, and dream fulfillment
- warns Agnieszka Kowalska from the UOKiK Communication Department.
And she is absolutely right. Rebranding this mechanism in the guise of a “modern lifestyle” is great marketing, but fatal math.
This is the classic snowball effect, well known to market players who leverage their positions and suddenly wake up to a margin call. In the real world, that “call to replenish the deposit” is a letter from a debt collection agency. If you buy a lot this way, beware. You can quickly lose control over purchases and become over‑indebted.

Before you click: do a quick audit of your finances
Technology makes life easier, but it doesn’t remove the obligation to think. Before you succumb to another “once‑in‑a‑lifetime” promotion for a gaming gadget or designer shoes, pause. UOKiK recommends a simple yet highly effective solution.
Before you click “pay later”, pause for a moment and check. Relentlessly calculate how much all your installments and deferred payments add up to. Also check whether you really need the purchase.
Most BNPL platforms have built‑in AI‑based scoring systems that assess your creditworthiness in milliseconds. If the algorithm analyzes you, analyze your finances. Sales last short, but financial obligations stay with you longer. Instead of letting digital whips of interest and late fees beat you, change your strategy.
It’s better to postpone the purchase, not the payment.
