U.S. labor market slows. Investors await key data and Fed moves
Yesterday we saw the ADP report on the U.S. labor market, which fell short of expectations. In U.S. firms, the number of jobs in June rose by 98k versus a 122k increase in the previous month. Market consensus had expected the ADP report to show a 120k job increase.
Today the markets will focus on the Thursday release of June U.S. labor statistics. Consensus assumes that non-farm employment rose by 110k jobs, and hourly wage growth accelerated to 3.5% from 3.4% in May.
At the same time, the unemployment rate stabilized at 4.3%. The state of the labor market could significantly affect future Fed decisions, so it will be closely watched by investors, especially after the recent conference of the new U.S. central bank chief, which was quite sharp.
