Cyberattack on Novo Nordisk
Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical giant, fell victim to a cyberattack carried out by the cybercriminal group FulcrumSec, specializing in extortion.
Over 1,3 TB of data was stolen from the company’s network, and after the firm rejected the attacker’s demand of 25 million USD, the perpetrators began considering selling part of the stolen information.
Reuters, citing information provided by FulcrumSec, reported that within two months the group gained access to significant company data assets.
Among them were, among others, clinical trial data, employee data, doctors and patients, as well as the company’s source code, confidential information about drugs on the market and in development, and documentation concerning the AI models used by the company.
A spokesperson for Novo Nordisk assured that the company is taking the matter seriously and ensuring uninterrupted operation of its main platforms.
“We are in contact with the relevant authorities,” he said.
The company’s official statement also indicates that several security measures have been taken, including the temporary shutdown of some internal IT systems to protect data.
“We are working on restoring the operation of the affected systems in a controlled and secure manner; we do realize, that this process takes time,” we read.
“During the ongoing investigation and remedial actions, we have determined that some non-public data, including personal data, were copied onto external media without authorization. We are informing the affected individuals appropriately,” it added.
The company assured that “protecting the security and integrity of our systems and delivering reliable products and support to patients remain our highest priorities.”
