The Polish space industry has recently been experiencing a revival. This is not only due to the launch of Dr. Sławosz Uznański‑Wiśniewski into space, who became the second Polish person ever to reach space (the first was Mirosław Hermaszewski – editor’s note), but also because of the development of new technologies. Polish companies and research institutes increasingly collaborate with the European Space Agency, preparing various contracts for it. The industry’s revival began in 2022, and since then the demand for Polish specialists has grown. It should be noted that the space sector does not only involve work related to space, but also the development of many systems and technologies used on Earth, including those employed in the military. As is well known, since Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine the military sector has accelerated significantly. This coincided with the intensified work of specialists in the space industry.
Demand for many specialists
The range of people who can thrive in the space industry is very broad. It is not only specialists strictly in space research, but also a large group of other experts. From engineers building machines to specialists in artificial intelligence, which, like in many industries, is also starting to play a key role in astronautics. Especially when it comes to data analysis.
In the space industry, among others, programmers creating software for electronic devices and systems, such as satellites or onboard electronics, specialists responsible for low‑level control software for electronic hardware, programmers creating efficient and fast systems in C or C++, engineers designing systems that must react instantly and operate without delays, e.g., in satellites or control systems, and experts capable of building specialized electronic circuits used, among other things, for rapid data analysis are sought. But that’s not all. The industry also needs operators of lathes, milling machines, and other experts with manual and technical skills. Due to the high demand for workers, the space sector increasingly also hires people with other skills, including soft skills that enable teamwork and independent positions.
Wages reaching 35 k PLN per month
The demand for employees in the space industry is enormous. The industry has increased employment in Poland by over 30% in just three years, from 2022 to 2024. This growth – as industry specialists predict – will be even greater from 2026 to 2030, because the demand for new technologies is developing rapidly.
Specialists entering the space sector can expect not only a lot of challenging and interesting work, but also high salaries. Although wages in Poland still lag behind those in Western Europe, they stand out significantly compared to other industries in our country. A CNC operator can expect a salary of 6 to 9 k PLN gross per month – according to Bankier.pl. Experienced lathes and milling machine operators can receive monthly from 10 up to 16 k PLN gross. Aerospace specialists and CAM and precision manufacturing experts achieve salaries in the range of 15–25 k PLN gross – calculated by Bankier.pl. And this is not a wage ceiling. The most experienced system engineers can earn up to 35 k PLN per month.
