Wednesday, however, brings a solid dose of optimism to the markets. The US President agreed to a two‑week weapons suspension, and the Iranian side confirmed the possibility of tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The ceasefire period is to be used for intensive peace negotiations. These developments immediately reflected in asset valuations.
Oil prices fell by 15%
Oil prices fell by about 15% (Brent dropped to $93 per barrel), major Asian indices posted strong gains (Korea’s KOSPI up almost 7%, Japan’s Nikkei up 5.5%), and futures on major European indices also rose. In such an environment one can expect a bullish start to the session on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, and later on Wall Street (provided no cooling information surfaces during the day). The question of the durability of the agreement remains open.
Today, geopolitical issues will remain at the center of investors’ attention, especially since the macroeconomic calendar lacks readings of significant importance for the markets. From monetary policy events – the National Monetary Policy Council begins a two‑day meeting on interest rates today (the decision will be announced tomorrow), and in the US a protocol from the last FOMC meeting (March 17‑18) will be published.
